The Mysterious Mystery of the Branxholm Post Box Service
The Gardener’s Cottage lists on Tripadvisor!
Once again, the Gardener’s Cottage lists on Tripadvisor!
Listing on Tripadvisor has a checquered history
Firstly they were run by Tripadvisor. The Cottage complied and publicised some fantastic deals available via our own website. However Tripadvisor decided to suppress their advice in preference to showing Booking-com listings.
The Cottage is listed on Booking.com, but did not qualify for Tripadvisor advice ‘places to stay’, under a peculiarly misleading ‘hotel’ rule that also displays places that are clearly not hotels, and clearly are not all the Booking.com accommodations in the area.
Recently, in another vainglorious initiative the Cottage prodded Mapquest who control most of the car navigation software. Wouldn’t it be nice if booked guests could find us on their car navigation when driving!
Mapquest, the premium provided of maps to cars, saw Branxholm as a barren wasteland, but after being stalked by the Cottage, opened their eyes to the possibility. Suddenly some local businesses appeared. Upon selecting from the limited fare, some showed a Tripadvisor affiliation, but in true infernally networked ubiquity; it was not all of the Tripadvisor treasure trove.
Even more perplexing was the Mara Ponds Gardens had appeared, but not as a selection. It was simply text like the Branxholm cemetery which had also spookily manifested onto the display.
Inspired by these ghosts of a conspiracy against the Cottage, new applications were made to Tripadvisor to relist the Cottage. The application was stoutly rejected, as was the suggestion that they were idiots for displaying Casa Pinnocchio and not the Seasons Pantry which now occupies that location.
You can lead the Tripadvisor to the fount of wisdom but you can’t make it think.
Not to be deterred, the brave little Cottage took the guise of citizenship of the European Union, as this was the only means of appeal/contact the faceless non-gendered incommuni-commandos of Tripadvisor.
The ruse worked and a blank unhelpful Gardener’s Cottage appeared on the Tripadvisor map. This could be claimed and edited, but here’s the cunning plan to limit the advice and encourage payment to help Tripadvisor provide what they boast they already provide. Only photos can be added unless you subscribe to ‘Upgrade to a Business Advantage subscription’.
It was an offer the wily Cottage could only refuse and load descriptions with the uploaded pictures laced with references to the Cottage’s website.
Was Tripadvisor’s plan that cunning? After all this chaos where Booking.com has taken over Tripadvisor it appears that the original information and reviews on the Cottage (and many other properties) was hidden (only visible to owner) and subsequently thrown away (because the data is so valuable). Even when the offensive properties were on Booking.com, there was no attempt to convert the clients to a Business Advantage, for either party.
We wonder if Baldrick was involved, and as part of the next step in this game the Cottage would appreciate reviews on Tripadvisor, especially by EU residents.
